2008 OII Annual Meeting


OII annual meeting events set for
August 26-27, 2008

The 2008 Annual Meeting of Members of the Ohio Insurance Institute will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 9 a.m. at Westfield Insurance, Westfield Center, Ohio.


The annual meeting will be held for the following purposes:

  • to consider reports;
  • to elect OII trustees to hold office for the term of three years (2009–2011) or until their respective successors are elected and qualified; and
  • other business brought before OII membership.

Guest presenters & meeting highlights

  • Featured at the OII Public Information Committee meeting at 12 noon on August 26 are Lara Kretler, Account Director and Bryan Haviland, SVP Client Services & Management Supervisor at Fahlgren Mortine Public Relations. Their presentation, “Web 2.0—Joining the Conversion,” provides a look at Web trends in social media and opportunities for reaching customers and audiences. Guests are welcome to attend this informative presentation that includes:
    • Brief overview of the social media universe - blogs, wikis, microblogging, social networking sites, social bookmarking and more
    • Harnessing the power and impact of consumer-generated media
    • Specific insights for the insurance industry - examples and case studies
    • Tips and takeaways for increasing online social media presence and brand credibility

  • OII Educator of the Year recipient, Karen Norton of Midview High School in Grafton, will be our guest at the social hour and cookout starting at 5 p.m. on August 26 at Blair Center.

  • Linda Wuestenberg of Parent Grief is OII’s featured Tuesday evening dinner speaker, sharing her tragic story that lead to the passage of Ohio’s Next of Kin Registry legislation. Following dinner, OII honors the Educator of the Year and Speakers Network award winners.

  • Wednesday’s OII Annual Meeting speakers include Mary Jo Hudson, Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance, who will update OII members on federal charter initiatives and the national regulatory dynamics affecting NAIC, NCIOL, Congress, the Administration and our industry. Also presenting is Gregory S. Casey, President & CEO of Washington DC-based Business-Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC). Greg will provide a national perspective on November’s elections and their potential impact on Ohioans.

Registration & Meeting Details

A registration desk will be set up prior to Tuesday afternoon’s committee meetings at Blair Center. Please check in at our registration desk when you arrive. All meetings and events on Tuesday and Wednesday will be held at Blair Center, with the exception of the post-golf Wednesday evening reception, which will be held at the Pavilion at Westfield Insurance Country Club.

Exact location of the meeting rooms for Tuesday committee meetings in Blair Center will be posted at the registration desk. A complimentary luncheon buffet will be available at Blair Center from 11:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. for those attending the Tuesday afternoon committee meetings. Members are welcome to attend the PI Committee’s working lunch presentation at noon on trends in social media and its potential in influencing industry stakeholders.

Business casual attire is appropriate for all meetings, as well as the cookout scheduled for Tuesday, August 26. Casual attire is appropriate for the cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception following golf on Wednesday.

Hotel Information

All registrants are requested to make their own housing reservations for the Westfield Inn no later than August 5, payable by credit card (Master Card and VISA) only. Single rooms are $115.02 per night and doubles are $136.32 ($68.16 each) per night. You must contact the Westfield Inn for reservations at 330/887-6700. Double room registrations will have priority over single accommodation requests at the Westfield Inn. We anticipate that most registrants will be able to stay at the Westfield Inn, however, those registrants making reservations after the August 5 cut-off may find their accommodations are off-site.

Registration for all annual meeting events must be completed online. Click the REGISTER NOW button below to register. You will have the option to pay online by credit card.
