There was a 1.2% increase in auto theft during the first half of 2000, compared with the same period the previous year. The largest increase (4.5%) occurred in the West. The South saw a 1.7% increase, the Midwest recorded a 0.8% decrease, and the Northeast saw a 3.3% decrease.
