25% of households with internet access would be willing to buy insurance online, according to a survey by QuickenInsurance. An earlier survey by Forrester Research found that 80% of those with online capability would use the Internet to shop for insurance but only 12% would actually buy online.

More men (17%) than women (9%) are willing to shop for insurance online, as were younger adults (36%) compared to those over 35 (15%). The QuickenInsurance survey predicted that $3 billion in insurance would be bought online in 2000 and 2001 and that online consumers would “research” some $23 billion in premiums.
