Fluctuations in the price of vehicle replacement parts
Different factors come into play when pricing vehicle replacement
parts. As body styles change from year to year, prices and the demand
for vehicles and their parts fluctuate. For example, some of the
replacement parts for a newer model year of a specific vehicle may
actually be cheaper than replacement parts of the earlier model,
even though theyre basically the same vehicle. This could
be due to the physical size and style of the part itself, or possibly
the costs involved in shipping. Or, it could be that the manufacturer
is overstocked and lowers the price to sell more of these parts.

Its cheaper to own and maintain a car today
than in 1960. This is based on a popular midsize car driven 15,000
miles a year and traded in after 4 years or 60,000 miles. Based on
costs associated with fuel, tires, maintenance, insurance, depreciation,
license and title, car costs by decade based on the value of todays
dollar are:
1960: $8,053
1970: $7,770
1980: $6,591
1990: $6,720
2000: $6,880
