1998 alcohol-related crash statistics were lower than the 1997 figures in all areas-crashes, deaths and injuries. Prior to 1995, Ohio alcohol-related crash figures had decreased annually since 1986. One reason may be a greater sense of public awareness regarding the hazards of drinking and driving. Another may be the impact of Ohio's tougher DUI laws, which became effective September 1, 1993.
