1. About the Ohio Insurance Institute

  • Association overview: Get a quick rundown on who we are, who we represent and who to contact for membership information.
  • Membership list and site links: Provided is a list of OII members in alphabetical order. Those with websites have their addresses listed and are hot-linked.
  • Freebies: Provided is a list of OII publications that are available at no cost. Those in bold face can be downloaded from our website.
  • Upcoming OII meetings and seminars: Updated regularly is an overview of seminars and workshops that OII is either sponsoring or co-sponsoring.

2. Consumer Information

  • Fact Pak brochures: All 10 OII Fact Pak brochures are available for downloading. Also provided is a brief description of each brochure and information on how to order copies.
  • Shopping for insurance: This is a quick tips section on:
    - How to shop for insurance and what factors to consider
    - Auto insurance discounts
    - 10 ways to save on auto insurance
    - 11 ways to save on homeowners insurance
  • The insurance industry in Ohio: This new OII brochure details the insurance industry's contributions to the state's economic development and employment base.
  • Auto and homeowners insurance cancellation laws: Consumer rights as auto and homeowners insurance policyholders in Ohio are outlined here.
  • Insurance and safety-related resource list: Although not a complete list of sites on the internet, we've attempted to provide those likely to be of most interest to our website users. Links include OII member companies/organizations, along with national insurance trade groups, safety groups and Ohio governmental and regulatory agencies.
  • 2000 OII Insurance Facts book: Selected sections of this fact book will be available for downloading by summer, 2000.
  • Teaching your teen to drive: This brochure is a must-have guide for parents and new drivers looking for information on Ohio's new graduated licensing law. This helpful brochure will assist parents and guardians with the requirement of 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training with your new driver.

3. News

  • News releases: 2000 news releases and archived releases from 1999 provide an overview of insurance issues and serve as the basis for trend development.
  • OII Forum newsletter: OII's monthly newsletter and archived editions of 1999 can be downloaded. This provides legislators, OII members and news reporters a brief look at insurance-related issues from around the state and country.
  • Reporters-Are you on our mailing list? This helps us maintain an updated reporter data base for future communications.

4. Teaching Tools

  • OII workshops for educators: Details on upcoming programs for teachers are provided here, including the award-winning four-day Insurance Workshop for Educators and one-day programs scheduled on an as-requested basis.
  • Request teaching materials: Educators can request a classroom speaker, order from our video loan library and even obtain free brochures and materials to help teach insurance, all with a click of a few buttons. Sample a web version of the OII CD, "The Key to Responsibility," which provides an educational and fun way for teachers to teach and students to learn about auto insurance and related safety issues.
  • Ohio insurance educator of the year: Educators can nominate their colleagues or themselves on-line.
  • Links to other educational websites: Other insurance education websites are listed and hot-linked here. Also provided is a link to OII's complete website directory.

5. Government Affairs (Most of this area is password-protected for OII members only. Contact the OII for your company access code.)

  • Newsmakers: Timely news items regarding legislative, judicial and regulatory developments are posted here.
  • Committee activities: Legislative committees drive the development of OII positions and initiatives regarding current and future legislation, judicial decisions and regulatory matters. Obtain the current status on activities, access related bill text from a linked site and keep in touch with those issues under consideration by the following OII committees:
    - Legislative Committee
    - Automobile Subcommittee
    - Legal/Judicial Subcommittee
    Also access an overview of OII positions on selected legislative and regulatory issues under the "Key OII Positions" section.
  • Legislative Watch List: Here you'll find a list of bills that OII is tracking for its constituents. You can also access the bill text and its status through links.
  • OII Political Action Committee (OIIPAC): OIIPAC serves as the P/C insurance industry's voice in Ohio's legislative process. Learn more about Ohio's political climate and obtain candidate profiles and statewide election results here. OIIPAC events and membership information are also posted.
  • Legislative Directory: Updated legislative and congressional rosters are maintained here.
  • OII General Bulletin: Here's another way to access OII's newsletter that summarizes recent insurance-related legislative activity.
  • Links to other key government affairs websites: Other websites that will help keep you informed on recent legislative, judicial and regulatory matters are listed and hot-linked here. Download the latest version of a bill or check on this week's House and Senate committee meeting schedule through our handy hot-links. Also provided is a link to OII's complete website directory.
