Through 1998, worldwide natural disaster losses in the 1990s totaled more than four times the losses in the entire previous decade. Worldwide insured losses in the 1980s totaled $23.7 billion; from 1990-1998 the total was $91.8 billion. Total worldwide losses in the 1980s was $77.5 billion, while in the '90s (through 1998), the total was $360.1 billion.
