A study published in June 2003 in The Lancet, a British medical journal, concludes that the risk of drivers being involved in a fatal accident was reduced by 35% in the month after they received a traffic ticket. The study was based on an analysis of 10 million drivers in Ontario, Canada, including nearly 9,000 involved in fatal accidents over an 11-year period.
